The time Frances went to Savannah Beach

I wanted to show you all some pictures I discovered in an old envelope of my grandmother’s trip to Savannah Beach, now Tybee Island, with her best friends in May of 1949. These vintage beach pictures are among the most beautiful I have ever seen. I can’t quite put my finger on why I like them so much, suffice to say they remind me of heaven.

I love the overexposure. I might try to do this when I go to the beach in a few weeks. Frances is the one with those incredible white cat eye sunglasses, second from the left.

They apparently picked up some boys along the way…

Aren’t these great? Can’t you just picture them, going from the beach to the boardwalk where they meet some boys, just living young and carefree. I love it.

My grandmother working it through that screen door.

Here’s day two of the trip, May 30, 1949. Frances is wearing a plaid dress in all these pictures.

I would like to call attention to the car on the beach. Love it.

Perfection.

Check out those bare feet!

It looks like they had so much fun, I can just imagine the laughter and memories. Scanning all these pictures has helped me see my grandmother not only as the great lady I know, but as the young, spunky girl who never met a stranger, adored her friends and loved a good time!
