Model of the Month: Willy Cartier

Does anyone remember way back in the day when I did a Model of the Week segment? I loved doing those! I have decided to reinstate the segment, but this time, I will focus on a new model every month. That will help me to be consistent!

So without any further ado, Artemis’ first official Model of the Month is…

He’s French, he’s swarthy and he’s a dancer! I do not know much about Willy, except that I adore his look. While I would like to avoid putting Willy in a box, there is no denying that he looks like a Spanish pirate mixed with an Indian brave. I mean, how could you go wrong?

He has been wildly successful with Givenchy and Jean Paul Gaultier, and is the darling of editorials across the globe. I cannot wait to see his face everywhere. Hello, H+M, are you listening?

I think Willy’s success is due in part to his unique appeal; his youth is obvious, but there is something almost ancient about him. It’s like he is from a century long ago, one with mystery, chivalry and a little danger thrown into the mix. I dig it.

Also, there is a fabulous Tumblr dedicated to Willy with some photos from campaigns, street style to his Instagram. I don’t mean to comment on his personal life, but two words: Frank Ocean (!)

Model of the Week: Marloes Horst

Hailing from Holland, Dutch bombshell Marloes is an industry dream. She can do high fashion spreads and still rock it in romp on the beach swimsuit campaigns (thanks to that ridiculous bod!). Marloes has been modeling for about five years and is now based in New York.

Marloes is known for her Editorial work, but I really cannot believe Victoria’s Secret hasn’t snatched her up yet.

I mean seriously…

She is just gorgeous and seems so healthy and happy. We need more models like sunny Marloes!

Check her out in a short interview with Seafolly Australia

Model of the Week: Hanaa Ben Abdesslem

The Tunisian stunner Hanaa Ben Abdesslem is one of Fashion’s fastest rising stars! She has been featured in Vogue España, Vogue Germany, V Magazine and is a new spokeswoman for Lancôme.

Of course I am biased when it comes to her short hair, but I absolutely love her unique look. Hanaa can look feminine and graceful in editorials or absolutely WORK an edgier look.

I have been aware of Hanaa for a few months after seeing a short feature about her in American Vogue, but it was this shoot for Jean Paul Gaultier that really made me stop and take notice. I came to the ad to see Model of the Week Andrej, but her gaze immediately caught my eye. It’s not easy to upstage Andrej Pejic! I think Hanaa will do just fine in this Industry ;)

She is even lovelier in living color. Have a look!

Model of the Week: Natalia

When I first began the Model of the Week segment I never wanted to feature “supermodels.” I only wanted to draw attention to models that those outside of the Fashion Industry may not be aware of. However, the time has come to make an exception to that rule.

In honor of how fabulous she looked at the Met Gala tonight and to show my support of her beliefs, (you know the ones) the new Model of the Week is the one, the only, Natalia Vodianova!

A sneak peek of her dress tonight! Image from her Facebook

Natalia has been a major force in the industry for over eight years. The top model consistently delivers incredible work (between having three adorable kids!) and has solidified her status as a philanthropist and role model through her successful charity, The Naked Heart Foundation.

Here are some of my favorites (DVF’s painted pictures) and Natalia’s most iconic images (Hello CK Euphoria!!!)

Natalia is my favorite for more than just her sweet disposition and pretty face. For me, her image is inseparable from the Fashion Industry I so dearly love. I used to sketch her editorials to practice drawing and the above photograph was my blog header for two years on the first If I Were Artemis back at!

Rarely does American Vogue put a supermodel on the cover, but they did back in July of 2007 when I received my first issue ever; one look at the cover and I was hooked. My journey from tom boy who detested makeup to a bleached blonde Fashion student began with these very images of Natalia.

I still dream about owning this backless Roberto Cavalli gown, all these years later!

It’s so crazy to think about! Natalia and Grace changed the course of my life with these three images. The least I can do is make her Model of the Week! Love you Supernova Vodianova!

What about you guys??? Do you remember the moment you fell in love with fashion? Which icons inspired your love of fashion?
