Design Friday: The Great Gatsby

DesignFriday3

Ever wonder how a blockbuster film’s logo gets made? The folks at Like Minded Studio revealed their concept designs for Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby and it is pretty fantastic.

Take a look!

And the final, glorious product…

Isn’t that the coolest? I think they did a fantastic job capturing the magic of the Roaring Twenties.

Design Friday: Trig

DesignFriday3

If you are like me, the word “Trigonometry” might conjure horrible memories of high school math that send you running in terror. Luckily for us, Sydney’s Olivia King interpreted the word a bit differently.

Trig1

Olivia combined an appreciation for triangles, bright colors, Australia’s finest natural materials and a passion for jewelry making into her new project, Trig.

Using the Trig app, customers can choose between multiple variations of color, shape and material. The finished pieces are then packaged in brightly colored boxes and sent on their merry way.

Now this is one Trig I can support! I love all those bright colors.

Blog Envy #1

BlogEnvy

It’s time for my first official Blog Envy post! I want this monthly segment to be a place where I share some of my favorite sites with y’all, and maybe you share some of yours with me in the comments? Yes? Sounds like a plan.

First up,

Retail/Shopping: A Kind Of Guise

AKOG1 AKOG2

I’ve blogged about this German company many times before, but I just want to make sure that no one misses out on all the awesome going down over the pond! They are extremely talented, witty, and keep it real (you have to respect that in a company). See their latest clothing lines, company news, random pictures of their glorious Dog de Bordeux in residence, and simply enjoy the eye candy that is the AKOG site.

Fashion Blogs: Sandra Hagelstam’s 5 Inch and Up

Sandrabyzanita1

Hailing from Finland, this London based blogger is hands down one of the coolest girls in the industry.  I am constantly inspired by her ability to mix classic silhouettes with the minimalist edge made famous by Scandinavians (seriously, is there something in the water over there?).

Expect to see her personal style flawlessly photographed, latest purchases and styling projects. If you’re ready to experience major hair envy, head on over.

Design Inspiration: RoAndCo

RoAndCo is a “multi-disceplenary design studio devoted to holistic branding that serves a range of fashion, art and lifestyle clients.” Basically, they fix problems and provide solutions in the coolest ways imaginable. Remember Svbscription? All RoAndCo.

Don’t be overwhelmed by the projects flashing in front of your eyes, jump in and explore!

I like the vibe of this company. You pay as much as you want (free is also an option) for some of the coolest fonts around.

Great company, fantastic fonts, what’s not to love? Go see for yourself!

So that’s it! The first Blog Envy is done! Now it’s your turn to tell me about some of your favorite sites in the comments! Don’t forget that you can always see my favorite sites for yourself on my Inspiration page.

Design Friday #1: Tweed Ride

DesignFriday3

There are few things I love more in this world than hand-lettering, bicycles and a good tweed. Luckily, Australia has me covered.

Enter, The 3rd Annual Tweed Ride, where participants get to dress up and talk swanky whilst taking a mounted tour of  Sydney. To create a poster that reflects the vintage awesomeness that is the Tweed Ride, organizers called upon Dittmar, a collaborative design practice out of Berlin.

TweedRide1

Isn’t this a fantastic poster? The folks at Dittmar say they tried to capture a “gentleman tone of voice” for the visuals. Nailed it.

I love how creatives are still so enamored and inspired by the past. Also, does this not look like the most fun?

I propose we bring The Tweed Ride to Richmond. Who’s with me?

See more from Dittmar or check out more tweed!

p.s. this is the first official Design Friday! Woop woop!
