Hallelujah

Just when I thought I could not miss Agyness Deyn anymore, InStyle UK because heaven forbid that a US mag put a model on the cover came through in a major, nod to the Sixties kinda way.

So the new readers know, I adore Agyness and she was my inspiration for the haircut that has literally changed my life; I do believe this blogger owes her a great big happy belated birthday indeed!

McFerrin Family Vintage Photos Part III

Here’s the third and probably last of my vintage photo posts for awhile. I think I have scanned all that I can scan! You can read the first and second if you missed those!

My family has really enjoyed seeing these and I hope you do too! You can really get an idea of what life in the Fifties and Sixties was like!

Look at the buttons on that dress! So classy.

Sharp dressed men for Easter!

This is how a family dressed to go to Six Flags in the Sixties. Gotta love it.

My family at Callaway Gardens in the Sixties. Look at my Grandmother’s bathing suit, I love it!

The Neighborhood Boys looking so cute. The tallest one is my Uncle Stephen and the little goober in red pants is my Uncle David.

I scanned about six of my mom’s class photos too. They all have that adorable My Classmates cover in various colors. She’s the tallest in the middle on the back row and her third grade boyfriend is the handsome one in the blue on the bottom right. How adorable are they! You can really see what the children’s fashion in the Sixties was like too.

Here are my favorites from this batch!

How sweet is this picture? My grandfather used to plant white lilies in every house they lived in.

As promised, here are some pictures from my mother’s trip to Paris!

And here’s a blue car in Ireland! They had to wait for the farmer to herd the sheep across the road.

That’s it! Hope you enjoyed them!

Be sure you take the necessary precautions to preserve your family photos too! I would hate for anyone to lose their precious memories.

McFerrin Family Vintage Photos Part II

As promised, here is the second installment of the McFerrin family’s vintage photos! If you missed the first part, read it here.

Here are more of my favorite family photos from the 40′s, 50′s and 60′s!

My beautiful grandmother, Frances McFerrin. When she was in her late twenties, her brother Earnest began introducing her as his “Old Maid Sister” because she chose to go to work rather than get married. Atta girl!

My handsome grandfather, Earl

All the single ladies at Atlanta’s Piedmont Park in the 40′s!

All the newly married ladies (except the hold out, Frances, on the far right!)

A photo in front of the new house on Cherokee Street

My mom on Easter Sunday, 1957. If anyone was wondering where my curly blonde hair came from, I have photographic evidence…

I don’t know many mothers who wear this to push their children’s swings! The 50′s were so glamorous!

Cathy and Holly

My Uncle Stephen on Jekyll Island, GA

The Queen’s Stair in Nassau. I love my grandmother’s look in this one!

There is a picture of me hanging on a canon like this, I got it from my Mama

My Uncle David before his two year old portrait was taken. He was affectionately nicknamed “Beezawoo”

And my two favorites of this bunch,

Carol and Cathy at the Atlanta Zoo in August, 1958. Everything about this picture is perfect: from my mom’s shorts and straight across bangs, their cute knobby knees, Carol’s big girl expression and the tigers lounging in the background! One of my all time favorites!

And here we go, the epitome of Sixties’ style!

White gloves, Bow ties and White Tuxes. My, my, Easter Sunday has never looked better.

Well, there you go! I hope you all have enjoyed the second batch of pictures as much as I have enjoyed sharing them with you!

Come back next Thursday for the third installment, which will feature some more family vacations! *cough* Paris in the 80′s *cough*

McFerrin Family Vintage Photos

My Mother’s Day present to my Mother was to take my Grandmother’s boxes and boxes of photos and scan them so we don’t lose any! It was a gift for my mother, but doing this has been a pleasure for me too! A defining facet of my personality is my love of documentation. I guess that explains why I have three blogs and carry my camera everywhere, but I have enjoyed this more than you know.

My Grandmother isn’t doing very well, we just moved her into a nursing home today, and these glimpses into her beautiful and long life are filling us all with joy and peace.

Here are just a few!

My Grandmother, Frances Bennett McFerrin is in the front (with the great pair of legs!)

Frances as a young teenager

My Handsome Grandfather, Earl Arch McFerrin

‘Mac’ in Uniform

My Grandmother, one classy lady, on a cruise in 1965

My Grandmother at 40

My Uncle Stephen at Jekyll Island, GA. This picture is so Sixties, from the Bus in the background, the Motel sign and that man walking with a tie and hat in the middle of a Georgia Summer. I love it!

My Uncle David, My Mom Cathy, My Uncle Stephen and my Grandmother in Nassau, 1965

My cousin Carol, mom, Uncles and Grandmother at the Atlanta Zoo in the Sixties! How adorable are they?!?

It’s all about that Car baby

Christmas in the 60′s. “Santa’s” sack is my Grandfather’s laundry bag from WWII

My Grandmother got all dressed up to go visit her cousins Bobbie Louis and Joyce after the birth of their son Bradley

My Uncle Stephen reading the Bible upside down

My mother and Uncles at the Roosevelt’s Little White  House in Georgia

First day of 1st Grade and 8th Grade

Crew Cuts and Christmas Trees

Holly, Cathy, Stephen and Earl ‘Butch’ McFerrin

My mother, Uncle and Grandfather. Easter Sunday in the 1950′s. Precious.

And lastly, my favorite picture of my Grandmother.

Isn’t she lovely? My Grandfather planted Dogwood trees at every house they lived in. What a beautiful gesture!

There you go! A glimpse into life in the Sixties and Forties! There are some gorgeous photos still in cigar boxes I haven’t gotten to yet, so expect another Vintage Photo post soon!
